October 1, 2009

September has come and gone, and we Twisted chicks are having a great fall so far. We're thrilled to extend a warm, fuzzy Twisted welcome to our newest addition: designer, teacher and all-around knitting guru Sivia Harding! Portland is fortunate that Sivia has decided to make this her home, and Twisted is uber-extra fortunate that Sivia has decided to make us her knitting home. She has just started working in the shop, and will also be teaching classes this Winter and beyond. Please stop by to say hello and welcome Sivia to the Twisted family!

We have a great October planned, and we want to make sure you all mark your calendars, because there are things coming up that you definitely do NOT want to miss...

Read on for info about:

FAMILY TRUNK PROJECT, OCT 9

Trunk Tree

Please join us on Friday, October 9th for a reception to kick off a week-and-a-half-long trunk show with Emily Johnson. Emily is sharing all the completed garments from her Family Trunk Project. You don't want to miss this amazing testament to one American family and the power of knitting as an art form that is as meaningful as it is practical. The reception begins at 5pm so come on by, nibble on some treats, meet Emily, and take a gander at her beautiful designs.

FALL SALE, OCT 9-11

Friday, October 9th also kicks off our Fall Sale! Yes, you read that right, we are having a sale Friday, October 9 through Sunday, October 11. Help us make room for new fall goodies and get ready for Fall inventory. (Twisted will be closed on Columbus Day - Monday, October 12th, so we can get everything counted.) We are having A Very Twisted Halloween with Inga (a.k.a. the Irish dyer Rockpool Candy), Jimbo and his World's Largest Crochet Hook, and Laurie Wheeler from the Crochet Liberation Front . Come to Twisted Friday evening, October 30, from 5-8 or Saturday, October 31 from 12-4 and help spin and crochet a giant spiderweb. Bring along your spindle or wheel, some natural-colored or white fleece, your crochet hook, or just your curiosity, and celebrate Halloween with some flair!

BABY LOVE BLANKET DRIVE

Baby Love Blanket

We are also once again a drop-off point for the Baby Love Blanket Drive. The Baby Love Blanket Drive is a charity craft-along that runs from October through December. People in Portland and beyond knit, crochet and quilt blankets for newborns in need. Blankets must be in a machine-washable yarn, but that's the only requirement. Let your imagination soar for these newborns in need. If you get your materials here at Twisted, we'll give you 10% off.

JOY OF SOX AND OTHER BOOKS

Sock books continue to arrive at the shop with exciting regularity. Chrissy Gardiner's Toe-Up! has been immensely popular, but don't you worry, we have a steady stream coming straight from the author since she just lives down the street. Star and Sivia both have patterns in the new Joy of Sox book (interestingly enough, their patterns are one right after the other!). Cat Bordhi's newest book, Personal Footprints for Insousciant Sock Knitters, has hit the shelves, and we've already seen one discovery sock in progress. Shannon isn't far behind - she's dying to try out this Personal Footprint thing...

Joy of Sox

The majority of us here are working on the Fall Knitalong, Baby Cables and Big Ones, Too. Emily, Shannon, and Parna are all working it up in Mirasol Tupa, a lovely merino-silk blend. Ooh-la-la! The Knitalong group meets Friday nights from 5:30 or 6 until we close at 8pm. Shannon is super slow on this project, so it's definitely not too late to join. If you are interested, remember that you get 10% off your yarn here at Twisted.

We also have great classes coming up here at Twisted, so check out the complete class list.

As always, thank you to all of our amazing customers! It is because of you that we are what we are, and our lives have been immeasurably enhanced by our relationships with you all.

-Shannon, Emily and the rest of the Twisted Team
